Ibu Muda Tewas Tertabrak Transjakarta di Otista

JAKARTA – Nasib nahas dialami Tutiana (31), seorang ibu muda warga Jalan Kolonia Muka Kelurahan Bidara China, Jakarta Timur.
Dia meninggal dunia seketika akibat tertabrak bus Transjakarta saat berusaha menyeberang jalur busway di Jalan Otista Raya, Jakarta sekira pukul 09.30 WIB, Rabu (14/8/2008).

Berdasarkan informasi dari Traffic Management Center (TMC) Polda Metro Jaya, peristiwa tersebut terjadi tepat di depan Nata Tour Sriwijaya. Korban berusaha menyeberangi jalan. Namun pada saat bersamaan bus bernomor polisi B 7999 IK Koridor V meluncur dengan kecepatan tinggi sehingga tabrakan tidak dapat dihindarkan.

Jembatan Ambruk di Padang, 3 Tewas & Puluhan Luka

PADANG – Sedikitnya 51 orang menjadi korban ambruknya jembatan kawat di dekat Kantor Bupati Sijunjung Sumatra Barat Minggu ( 17/8/2008 ) pukul 19.30 WIB.

Dilaporkan tiga orang tewas sementara puluhan lainnya menderita luka-luka. Menurut Delvi (29) seorang saksi mata, ambruknya jembatan itu terjadi ketika puluhan orang berada di atas jembatan saat perjalanan pulang usai melakukan ziarah.

Jembatan yang sudah karatan itu ambrol dan menumpahkan semua yang berada di atasnya ke dasar sungai, yang berada di bawahnya.

Korban tewas disebutkan menderita luka parah karena jatuh menghantam batu kali.

Saat ini warga masih melakukan evakuasi. Korban langsung dilarikan ke RSUD Sijunjung Sumatra Barat. Belum ada keterangan resmi dari pihak kepolisian atas peristiwa ini.

Jembatan Calau Ambruk Karena Overload

PADANG – Jembatan Calau yang malam tadi ambruk, disinyalir karena kelebihan daya tampung (overload). Pasalnya, sebelum ambruk, puluhan orang nampak hilir mudik di jembatan tersebut.

“Kejadian ini karena jembatan overload. Pengawas sulit memberitahu pengunjung karena jumlahnya terlalu banyak,” ujar Wakil Bupati Sijunjung, Yus Arifin kepada wartawan di TKP, Senin ( 18/8/2008 ) dini hari.

Dia menerangkan, rombongan yang tertimpa musibah ini adalah jemaah Satariyah yang hendak berziarah ke makam Syech Abdul Wahab. Bahkan, kata dia, rombongan juga sempat mengikuti upacara penurunan bendera di Kantor Pemkab Sijunjung yang haya berjarak 200 meter dari TKP.

“Kabar yang saya terima, jumlah peziarah mencapai 599 orang. Mereka saling bergantian melewati jembatan Calau. Karena jumlah yang melintas begitu banyak, jembatan pun putus dan mereka jatuh ke sungai,” tandasnya.

Sebagaimana diberitakan okezone sebelumnya, peristiwa ini telah memakan korban sebanyak tiga orang. Mereka adalah Rohanah (82), Nibar (60), dan Nurbaiti (72). Selain itu, sebanyak 10 orang juga mengalami luka berat dan masih menjalani perawatan.

What is Congestion?

Congestion is relatively easy to recognize—roads filled with cars, trucks, and buses, sidewalks filled with pedestrians. The definitions of the term congestion mention such words as “clog,” “impede,” and “excessive fullness.” For anyone who has ever sat in congested traffic, those words should sound familiar. In the transportation realm, congestion usually relates to an excess of vehicles on a portion of roadway at a particular time resulting in speeds that are slower—sometimes much slower—than normal or “free flow” speeds. Congestion often means stopped or stop-and-go traffic.

Previous work has shown that congestion is the result of seven root causes, often interacting with one another.

Hydrogen Vehicles Coming Soon? Two Million Could Be On Roads By 2020

ScienceDaily ( July 18, 2008 ) — A transition to hydrogen vehicles could greatly reduce U.S. oil dependence and carbon dioxide emissions, says a new congressionally mandated report from the National Research Council, but making hydrogen vehicles competitive in the automotive market will not be easy. While the development of fuel cell and hydrogen production technology over the past several years has been impressive, challenges remain.

Vehicle costs are high, and the U.S. currently lacks the infrastructure to produce and widely distribute hydrogen to consumers. These obstacles could be overcome, however, with continued support for research and development and firm commitments from the automotive industry and the federal government, concluded the committee that wrote the report.
